This project started as a way for me to combine my background in UX design with an interest in the XR field and wanting to explore how the two can be brought together 💏.
How can we design the most pleasurable experience within a world that for the average person can be a bit frightening or silly, or even outright sickening 🤢 at times?
Why not make the most relaxing game possible? Take away the high stress and goal/reward-oriented gameplay and create a space where users can relax, explore, and enjoy the view.
IT BEGINS WITH A DESIGN DOCUMENT. CHECK IT OUT BELOW.
First tests setting up VR Pawn in Unreal Engine 5.1. I wanted to like Unreal for VR so badly! While everything looks really nice (it’s quite beautiful out of the box, in fact), after a couple days of trying to sort it out, I was only able to get teleportation, but no smooth locomotion. 😠 Here’s a LI post with a short sample video.

First tests setting up OVR Sample Rig in Unity. After less than one day, I was able to install the Oculus interaction SDK with hand tracking and set up smooth locomotion, snap turning, as well as teleportation. 🥳
